Dot Loves Data has used ANZ transactions data to reveal the nuanced spending habits of NZers on Black Friday.

Kiwis turned Black Friday into a win for local businesses, spending a total of $504 million, with a $128 million surge on Black Friday deals alone.

Overall sales climbed 6.6%, highlighting the growing trend of an extended Black Friday - Cyber Monday shopping period.

Generational Spending Trends

💳 Millennials led the charge spending $45 million, followed by Gen X at $37 million, up 150% from an average November day. They splurged on sports, hobbies, books, and home improvement.

🛠️ Gen Z shifted their focus from fashion to home-related purchases, signalling Gen Z is perhaps putting down roots and settling into homes.

🌿 Baby Boomers doubled down on home and garden, yet remained surprisingly restrained when it came to overall spending.
