DOT’s Carbon Tracker tracks Aotearoa’s progress toward climate targets by using the latest dynamic data to estimate New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions. It’s the only tool that captures change in our emissions on a daily basis nationally and by sector.

How it can help

Using Carbon Tracker you can get answers to questions like:

Which sectors are the biggest contributors to New Zealand’s carbon emissions?

How is New Zealand tracking against our carbon emissions targets?

What could my industry do to help reduce emissions?

How it works

Currently reporting at a national level, Carbon Tracker aligns its reports with The Ministry for the New Zealand Environment’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory (NZGGI) and uses the dominant patterns in each sector to provide a dynamic and predictive model.

Emissions by sector

Our sector emissions estimates provide sector-specific insights expressed in terms of kilotonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (ktCO2e). Carbon Tracker is designed to give insights that are relevant to our emissions reductions targets.
